Red Alert – The War Within (2010)http://www.thefilmwall.com/red-alert-the-war-within-2010/ http://www.thefilmwall.com/red-alert-the-war-within-2010/#comments Sun, 11 Jul 2010 19:02:43 +0000 rashmeet http://www.thefilmwall.com/?p=74695 Red Alert: The War Within fashions itself as an even-handed, “based on a true story” portrayal of a poverty-stricken farm worker in rural India who joins a guerilla-style militia group in the hope of providing for his children. Narashima (Sunil Shetty), the farmer-turned-revolutionary, quickly moves up the ranks from cook to riflemen, finding bloodshed everywhere he turns. The last straw for him comes when he takes part in a raid on an elementary school, baring witness to the unfortunate collateral damage of young ones. Narashima soon abandons the cause and his recent friends to save himself, eventually cutting a deal with the police to protect his family.

Similar to the recent Bollywood crossover Raajneeti, Red Alert overtly hammers away ideas about corrupt bureaucracy squashing the little man, while throwing in some elaborately planned shoot-outs for good measure; one intensely realized moment follows the crew of rebels as they take over a children’s school, a scene seemingly pulled from a Paul Greengrass picture in the way the director uses rapid-fire jump cuts in jaunty, nausea-inducing fashion to convey a heart-thumping sense of unease. No matter how refreshing it is not to be bombarded with a single sing-and-dance extravaganza, Red Alert still falls back on the patented, stiffly acted melodrama of Bollywood. Even though the film proves slightly tilted toward the slant of leftist politics, it pegs itself as a two-sided treatment of the political fight for the people’s rights; after Narashima goes to the police, we get to see the government’s side of the story, and the complexities involved with combating guerilla warfare.

The unforgiveable flaw of the film is its lack of subtlety, the way character detail and plot development is laid for us on a silver platter, never requiring the audience to read between lines or fully engage with the intricacies of the lead character’s internal and moral quandary. Red Alert portrays a world torn to bits by opposing sides, relegating the unfortunate few as mere pawns in their all-out war for justice. If only the film was able to consistently command the viewer’s attention via visual excitement and sustain the taut qualities of the abovementioned scene, then we would have a solidly riveting flick here. Instead, the audience must sit through character after character spouting zealous, didactic ideals as the plot slowly moves to a ludicrously schemed, if somewhat unexpected, ending.

she is selected to go to a Youth Festival in South Africa.Amit, who is from Delhi, also goes to South Africa and he is everything Priya does not want in a man. Knowing exactly what Priya wants, he pursues her and they fall in love but their happiness is shattered when Priya
realizes he has read her diary and lied to her. She breaks up with Amit despite his protests. He tells her it was destiny which brought them together.
Priya decides to test destiny and asks Amit to write his full name on a fifty rupee note and buys a notebook with it.
She writes her full name and phone number in the book and gives it to an old book shop. She feels that if destiny really
meant for them to be together they’d find the note and the book again and find each other.
Three years later Priya and Amit are engaged to marry different people.
Will the fifty rupee note and the notebook find their way back into Priya and Amit’s hands and bring them back together?
Or does destiny have other plans for them?

Raavan (2010)http://www.thefilmwall.com/raavan-2010/ http://www.thefilmwall.com/raavan-2010/#comments Fri, 07 May 2010 09:04:37 +0000 rashmeet http://www.thefilmwall.com/?p=69672 Raavan is not a story, it is a world.
Beera Munda – Undisputed, Unlawful, Untamed
Dev Pratap Sharma – The Punisher; the Law, the Righteous
Ragini – Conscience, Beauty; Music

Dev falls in with Ragini, a spunky classical dancer who is as unconventional as him. They get married and he takes up his new post in Lal Maati, a small town in northern India.

A town where the world of law is not the police but Beera, a tribal who has, over the years, shifted the power equation of the place from the ruling to the have-nots of the area.

Dev knows that the key to bringing order to any place is not to vanquish the big fish; in this case – Beera.

In one stroke Dev manage to rip open Beera’s world, and set in motion a change of event which will claim lives, changes fortune.

Beera, injured but enraged hits back starting a battle that draws Dev, Beera and Ragini into the jungle.

The jungle which is dense, confusing, scary. And in this journey they must confront their own truth. A journey which will test their beliefs, convictions and emotions. Emotions which are as scary and confusing as the forest.

The forest becomes the battleground. The battle between good and evil, between Dev and Beera, between Ram and Raavan.

But when the lines dividing good and evil are blurring fast whose side will you take. When hate turns to love and the good starts looking evil. Which side will you battle for?

Love is the battle that nobody wins but everyone must fight. Even this Raavan.

Krantiveer – The revolution (2010)http://www.thefilmwall.com/krantiveer-the-revolution-2010/ http://www.thefilmwall.com/krantiveer-the-revolution-2010/#comments Fri, 07 May 2010 09:03:06 +0000 rashmeet http://www.thefilmwall.com/?p=69671 A sequel to super successful film Krantiveer, the film portrays Roshni, the young daughter of the man responsible for the last revolution Pratap Narayan Tilak, & her three friends as crusaders who carry forward the torch of awareness and rightness. The story takes all of them on a mission to rid the present society of the evils, a revolution for cleaning the system. Roshni is now wielding the power of media as a fearless journalist. Roshni has inherited not only the courage and sting of her legendary father but also the spirited lingo and the indomitable style. Would this revolution shake the nation into searching its conscience and see peace, freedom and justice for all?

About Indian democracy. About Indian elections. Above all, it is the
story of a few people who control the destiny of millions. It is the story of their unstoppable ambition, and their
bitter and violent battle to achieve it. This is the story of people who understand power and know how to wield
it at will.
It is the story of Bhasker Sanyal (Naseeruddin Shah), the fire brand leftist leader, as feared for his single handed
ability to challenge the most powerful of leaders as he was respected for his political integrity. Until one private
mistake of his hurtled him into a self imposed exile and spawned a secret consequence that shook the destiny
of the political future of the state.
And of Sooraj (Ajay Devgan) who rose from the backward classes with anger in his heart and leadership on
his mind. And yet, his destiny could never overcome the tragedy of his birth, trapping him in a terrible dilemma
where his loyalty to his friend threatens to destroy his own family.
Of Brij Gopal (Nana Patekar), who shunned every political ambition even as he continued to mentor and guide
the younger generation of leaders while the battle got bloodier by the day.
It is the story of Prithvi Pratap (Arjun Rampal), heir to a powerful political legacy and impatient to seize the top
position. A man with a heart of gold but who is all brawn. A man whose uncontrollable passions bring his family
to the brink of political extinction.
And of Veerendra Pratap (Manoj Bajpai), whose lunge at the throne was thwarted even as he was within striking
distance of it. A man who believes he was born to rule, and who will now stop at absolutely nothing to claw his
way back to the top.
Of Indu Sakseria (Katrina Kaif), the princess – beautiful, passionate, arrogant. She had only one all consuming
love. Little did she know that her personal happiness was dependent on the changing electoral fortunes of her
love, and that even a slight shift in the faultlines of political negotiation would cause a devastating earthquake in
her personal life. And yet, this spirited never say die diva rose from the ashes of her tragedy to challenge every
contender, over turning the political future of the state.
Of Sarah Jean Collins (Sarah Thompson), who came from one of the bloodiest and most violent places on earth.
Who escaped from there, bruised, hurt, and fell in love with a soul mate who shared a similar legacy. And her
abhorrence for it. And yet, when he was sucked into his destiny, this innocent bewildered girl’s private world was
thrown asunder.
And, it is the story of Samar Pratap (Ranbir Kapoor), the ultimate outsider. The apolitical conscientious objector,
who got reluctantly sucked into the battle ravaged arena of family rivalry. Only to turn into a master of the craft of
political warfare. It is the story of the woman that he loved, and the one that loved and lost him. It is the story of
his determined and fierce fight to protect his family. Of the bloodiest of final battles in a war alien to his character.
It is the story of a man’s descent into the moral hell that is Indian politics.
It is the story of a fiercely fought election campaign, where money power and corruption are the accepted norms,
and where treachery and manipulation are routinely used weapons. As the personal drama of these conflictridden
characters unfolds against this gritty backdrop, love and friendship become mere baits, and relationships
get sacrificed at the altar of political alignments. The darkness that rises from their souls threatens to envelope
all that they hold precious. Until eventually, in the crescendo of increasing violence, the line between good and
evil blurs, making it impossible to distinguish heroes from villains.
Raajneeti is the story of Indian democracy. And its ugly underside. It is about politics. And beyond.

My Friend Ganesha 3 (2010)http://www.thefilmwall.com/my-friend-ganesha-3-2010-2/ http://www.thefilmwall.com/my-friend-ganesha-3-2010-2/#comments Wed, 05 May 2010 19:51:29 +0000 rashmeet http://www.thefilmwall.com/?p=69335 Life has always played spoilsport with this simpleton village kid ganya. His parents left for heavenly abode years back, leaving him with a sprawling villa and scheming relatives. The court has appointed Ganya’s (maternal) uncle Naagesh and aunt Chandramukhi as the caretaker of this villa. So, Ganya the real inheritor of the property is living a miserable life at the mercy of his aunt and uncle whose sole motive is to grab the villa.

One fine day, having enough of their mistreatment, Ganya runs a away form home and reaches lord Ganesha’s temple at Ganpatiphule. Gangu Tai, who is praying at the temple, is moved by the sight of the sobbing kid and takes him home, Ganya, who has never seen his mother, finds a mother in Gangu Tai, and Gangu Tai, who has never had a kid, finds a son is Ganya.

At the villa, the mood is somber, Naagesh and Chandramukhi are frantically looking for Ganya, but in vain. They are well aware that without Ganya, their dream of grabbing the villa will remain just a dream. Much to their respite, Chandramukhi’s brother Bala manages to find Ganya and bring him back. But Ganya is unhappy to be back and longs to go back to Gangu Tai. Naagesh and Chandramukhi relent partially and decide to meet Gangu Tai and her husband Shamshir, but only to humiliate them. Ganya is back to his miserable life at the villa. Feeling helpless, he sobs in front of Lord Ganesha’s idol and prays for help. Lord Ganesha, on hearing Ganya’s honest prayers, appeared and befriends him. Ganya desparately wants to go back to Gangu Tai and Lord Ganesha sends him in a flash. Gangu Tai and Shamshir are delighted to have their beloved Ganya back.

But, while Ganya gets what he wants, the scene at the villa changes dramatically. Naagesh and Chandramukhi are taken aback by the sudden change in Ganya’s behaviour. The timid boy, whom they had ruthlessly treated, has turned the tables on them. Ganya was no more the timid Ganya they had known, but had transformed into a rich brat, beyond their control. The even set up a plot to kill him, but somehow Ganya manages outsmart them on all occassions.

On the other hand, Gangu Tai and Shamshir decide to ensure that Ganya being the real inheritor of the villa gets his due justice. They, along with Ganya reach the villa to confront Naagesh and Chandramukhi; but they can’t believe their eyes on seeing another (bratty) Ganya at the villa! Naagesh, Chandramukhi, Gangu Tai, Shamshir, Ganya are all bewildered by the presence of the two Ganyas.

As the mystery of the two Ganya’s depens, what emerges is a no holds barred joy ride involving on villa, two inheritors and their adorable friend Lord Ganesha. But who is this other Ganya? Is he the handywork of Naagesh and Chandramukhi or someone else who has set his eyes on villa or is it friendly Lord Ganesha weaving his magic once again! All this and much more that the kids will just love and enjoy in My Friend Ganesha 3.
